The +Pod is a proposal for a modular home solution that would combine shipping containers with a two-part, prefabricated core “pod” that contains the utility-intensive necessities of a living space (cooking, bathing, heating, and cooling). By combining shipping containers, which are inexpensive and readily available, with the ready-made “+Pod” nucleus, functional and unique homes could be assembled rapidly and at low cost. The cruciform geometry embedded in the pod’s configuration sets up a series of intimate and sheltered outdoor spaces.
